Mural Art Opening: June 9, 2010

In 2010, the Greater Patchogue Historical Society installed Robert Zoeller's mural, Scenes Along the Patchogue River (circa 1900), in its new permanent home at the Patchogue-Medford Library in Patchogue, Long Island, New York.
The mural, painted in 1952, was displayed for many years in the Union Savings Bank on South Ocean Avenue in Patchogue. In 2010, it was cleaned and restored by painting conservator Jonathan Sherman of Sherman Art Conservation, and it now hangs in the Patchogue-Medford public library on the wall adjacent to the main staircase.
The Historical Society held a reception on June 9, 2010, in the lower level lobby to celebrate the installation of the mural in the Patchogue-Medford Library, located at 54-60 East Main Street, Patchogue, NY 11772-3135, telephone 631-654-4700.
Additional paintings and objects related to Robert Zoeller and his work were on display during the opening on June 9, 2010, and for three weeks afterwards.

Thanks to Robert Zoeller's careful research, the 6-foot by 30-foot mural (oil on canvas) accurately depicts early industrial activity along the Patchogue River, and the adjacent buildings as they looked in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The view looks south towards the mouth of the Patchogue River and Great South Bay.
A plaque was installed next to the painting, which reads:
